Fungal meningitis can’t be caused by anabolic steroids

Over 500 individuals were contaminated with fungal meningitis after they had used Methylprednisolone injections manufactured by the New England Compounding Center (NECC). Over 30 persons died from this disease. No one must have doubted that the contamination was a great tragedy for certain individuals and their families. Nonetheless, anti-doping organizations put efforts to benefit from the case. What did they do? They started demonizing anabolic steroids. It was noticed by the media that anabolic steroids could cause the fatal condition fungal meningitis.
Recently the Bay County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation related to illicit manufacture of anabolic steroids. It found out that anabolic steroids were produced by certain underground lab in unsterile conditions. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office affirmed that they conducted the investigation for prevention of contamination with fungal meningitis in future. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, if someone takes anabolic steroids produced in unsterile conditions, he/she has a risk to be contaminated with fungal meningitis.
In fact, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office demonstrated own ignorance related to anabolic steroids and risks connected with contamination with fungal meningitis. A person may face fungal meningitis, if he/she uses preparations which are injected directly into the central nervous system. Methylprednisolone Acetate injections are administered into the central nervous system. That’s why these contaminated corticosteroids caused the fungal meningitis outbreak. When it comes to anabolic steroids, they are not injected into the central nervous system. They are mainly introduced into muscles. That’s why it is impossible to get contaminated with fungal meningitis while using anabolic steroids. If you administer anabolic steroids which are produced in unsterile conditions, you may experience certain adverse reactions. But you will never get contaminated with fungal meningitis while taking anabolic steroids for clinical or even for athletic purposes.
So, the fungal meningitis outbreak caused by usage of contaminated Methylprednisolone Acetate injections turned out to be just a condition to demonize anabolic steroids.  Notice, please: Methylprednisolone Acetate is not an anabolic steroid. It is a corticosteroid.
